Final of Women’s Copa América 2025: Brazil vs Colombia

Brazil successfully defended their crown in a breathtaking finale of the 2025 Women’s Copa América in Quito. After an electrifying 4–4 draw that required extra time, Brazil prevailed 5–4 in the penalty shootout, clinching their ninth Copa América Femenina title.

Colombia struck first in the 25th minute through Linda Caicedo, who finished brilliantly following a break orchestrated by Mayra Ramírez. Just before halftime, Brazil leveled the score via a penalty converted by Angelina, awarded after a VAR review.

The game shifted in the 69th minute when Tarciane’s own goal restored Colombia’s advantage—Brazil’s defense had misplayed a back‑pass under pressure. On the 80th, Amanda Gutierres equalized with a clinical finish, scoring her fifth goal of the tournament.

With just two minutes of regular time remaining, Mayra Ramírez ran onto a counter and made it 3–2 for Colombia at the 88th minute. However, Brazil legend Marta, at 39 years old, struck deep into stoppage time with a stunning long-range effort to force extra time and tie it 3–3.

Late in extra time, Leicy Santos scored a spectacular free kick that brought the score to 4–4 and pushed the contest into penalties.

The shootout was tense: Brazil goalkeeper Lorena made the decisive save against Carabalí’s attempt, sealing Brazil’s victory after an earlier miss by Marta herself in sudden death.

Brazil’s triumph caps a tournament they dominated, reaffirming their historical supremacy in South American women’s football with nine titles in ten editions. Despite Colombia’s brilliance and multiple leads, their elusive first continental crown remains unclaimed—marking yet another dramatic chapter in the rivalry.
