Summary – 2025 Belgian Grand Prix (Formula 1)

Piastri Triumphs at Rain-Soaked Spa, McLaren Shines Bright.
The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix, held from July 25–27 at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, delivered a thrilling spectacle under unpredictable weather conditions. As the 13th race of the season and the final one before the summer break, the sprint-format weekend saw Oscar Piastri dominate the field, securing both victory and leadership in the drivers’ championship.
McLaren Dominates Amid Challenging Conditions
The action-packed weekend began with McLaren showing strong form. Oscar Piastri topped Free Practice and clinched pole for the sprint race, while Max Verstappen won Saturday’s sprint under intermittent rain. In the main event on Sunday, delayed by poor visibility due to heavy rain, Piastri triumphed once again. With his sixth win of the season, he now leads the standings with 234 points, ahead of teammate Lando Norris (226), who started from pole but finished second.
Red Bull Stumbles, Spanish Drivers Struggle
Red Bull’s performance dipped notably, compounded by the recent dismissal of team principal Christian Horner. Verstappen finished third in the main race, now trailing by 69 points in the standings. Meanwhile, it was a forgettable weekend for Spaniards Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso. Both were penalized and forced to start from the pit lane, finishing outside the points. Alonso’s Aston Martin showed improvement, but not enough to contend; Sainz’s Williams struggled with setup throughout.
Weather & Strategy Take Center Stage
As is often the case at Spa, weather was a key factor. Rain affected all sessions, making tire choices and pit strategy crucial. Despite the challenges, McLaren capitalized brilliantly, further cementing their resurgence since their British GP win.
Looking Ahead
With Spa once again proving why it’s a fan and driver favorite, all eyes now turn to the Hungarian Grand Prix (August 1–3), as the title fight intensifies. Meanwhile, in F2, Alex Dunne took victory in a rain-affected feature race, with strong performances from Campos Racing and Pepe Martí adding to the weekend’s drama.
