On August 6, 2025, Cleveland Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams nearly made history. The 26-year-old was two outs away from a no-hitter against the New York Mets at Citi Field. In the ninth inning, Juan Soto hit a home run, ending the no-hitter and shutout.

Williams threw 126 pitches, giving up just one run and one hit. He struck out six and walked three. A great catch by right fielder C.J. Kayfus in the seventh helped keep the no-hitter alive. Williams’ effort led the Guardians to a 4-1 win, sweeping the series against the Mets.
