Inter Miami Signs World-Class Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid
Inter Miami CF has made a blockbuster signing, securing Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid on a loan deal through the 2025 MLS season, with an option to make the transfer permanent until 2029. The 31-year-old World Cup and two-time Copa América winner, announced on July 25, 2025, joins Lionel Messi and other stars, bolstering the Herons’ midfield with his dynamic play and elite experience.
De Paul, nicknamed “El Motorcito” for his tireless work rate, brings 78 caps for Argentina, including key roles in their 2022 World Cup and 2021/2024 Copa América triumphs. His arrival follows negotiations led by co-owner Jorge Mas, with a reported €15 million purchase option that could make him Inter Miami’s most expensive signing ever.
Due to MLS roster rules, De Paul joins as a non-Designated Player, with Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets occupying those slots. His permanent move in 2026 may require roster adjustments, potentially replacing Busquets, whose contract ends in 2025.
De Paul was unveiled to fans at Chase Stadium on July 26, 2025, before the FC Cincinnati match, donning the No. 7 jersey awaiting his visa to debut.
