Vancouver Whitecaps Nearing Blockbuster Signing of Bayern Legend Thomas Müller

The Vancouver Whitecaps are reportedly close to signing German soccer icon Thomas Müller, though the club has not yet confirmed the transfer. Sources indicate the 35-year-old, a 2014 World Cup winner and Bayern Munich’s all-time appearance leader, is set to join on a Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) deal worth approximately $1.7 million for 2025, transitioning to a Designated Player (DP) contract in 2026. The Whitecaps are expected to officialize the move soon, pending final paperwork.

Müller, who played 17 seasons in the Bundesliga, scoring 250 goals and providing 276 assists in 756 matches at Bayern Munich, ended his contract after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The Whitecaps acquired his MLS discovery rights from FC Cincinnati for up to $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Müller chose Vancouver over offers from FC Cincinnati and Los Angeles FC, influenced by talks with former teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger.

This potential signing, the biggest in Whitecaps history, aims to boost the second-placed Western Conference team’s MLS Cup ambitions with Müller’s world-class experience from 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues.
