Wimbledon 2025: A Grand Slam Steeped in Tradition, Embracing Innovation

Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament in the world since its founding in 1877, returns for its 138th edition this summer with a mix of tradition and transformation. Taking place at the iconic All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, the 2025 Wimbledon Championships run from June 30 to July 13, with preliminary qualifying rounds held from June 23 to 26.

The only Grand Slam played on grass, Wimbledon is famed for its heritage—immaculate whites, strawberries and cream, and an atmosphere unlike any other. But this year, the storied event takes a bold step into the future.

News for 2025

For the first time in its 147-year history, Wimbledon has fully replaced human line judges with the Hawk-Eye Live electronic line-calling system across all courts. This radical shift streamlines match officiating and eliminates the margin of human error, placing technology front and center. Traditional line judges are now absent, while court officials serve in new supporting roles, assisting players and managing equipment.

Another notable change: the starting times for the singles finals. Both the men’s and women’s championship matches will now begin at 4:00 p.m., a departure from the customary 2:00 p.m. slot. The later schedule is designed to attract higher viewership across North and South American audiences, reflecting the tournament’s evolving global outreach strategy
